MOVEMENT ARTS AND DANCE

Movement, physical theatre and dance has been a natural influence in my performing arts practices and training since youth helping build confidence and body awareness. Being fully present and consciously moving to what feels most natural like an inner rhythm.

To this day, I find different methods of movement, contact improvisation and dance fascinating as a testament to the body’s capabilities in a lifetime. The release and focus found in connecting mind, body, music and interaction with other performers in a space and live show is a creative life skill that surpasses the stage into life.

In former days of show production, directing live acts and producing acrobatic pieces I developed an appreciation for strong formations and synchronisation that brought life and inspiration into spaces. With choreography and timing, shows can create emotive and enhanced experiences for an audience.

In film direction, there’s a closer sense of intimacy, mystery and tension captured in facial expressions or closeness to movement, perceiving a cinematic storyline that can influence an emotional or nostalgic moment for viewers.

While yoga is not a performance, the practice itself brings more awareness to the breath and a sense of mental and physical longevity that contributes to diverse movement practices whether for athletic purposes or performative.
